5 Rakhi (bracelets)

The Hindu festival of Raksha Bandan is celebrated in August. It is a festival which reminds brothers and sisters of their responsibilities towards each other. Hindu women and girls give each of their brothers a ‘rakhi’ which is a sort of bracelet with brightly coloured threads. The sister ties the rakhi around her brother’s wrist to protect him against evil. Brothers are obliged to protect their sisters in return. A rakhi is a symbol of the bond between brothers and sisters. Rakhis come in various designs.
