Muslims do not have to pray in the mosque, although they consider it better to do so if they can. They can pray anywhere.
When it is time to pray, they stop what they are doing, put down a
prayer mat and pray. The mat provides a clean
space. Prayer mats can be of different colours and they usually
have geometrical patterns on them. Sometimes
they have a compass on them so the worshipper can find the direction of
Makkah. The picture shows the prayer mat of the imam in the Cardiff Yemeni mosque. He stands on this to lead the prayers. |
